Walter- Adoptable

American Staffordshire Terrier & Pit Bull Terrier Mix • Senior (Approx. 6 years) • Male • Medium-Sized

Meet Walter. He was confiscated with 13 other dogs and was the grandpa of the group. He is very, very sweet and extremely mellow and loves to just snuggle and sleep at home. He does great at home and is very low maintenance. He gets most excited when he is about to go out on a walk and does a happy dance. Oh, and if you have cheese for him, he might just commit to being your best friend forever.

Walter has great leash skills and does great walking around dog heavy neighborhoods. He is a little unsure meeting new dogs up close so needs to take it slow. The foster does believe that Walter would be able to live in a home with another dog with proper introductions!

I come with free training for life from Safe Humane. Click here to learn more about the program!

MORE ABOUT WALTER:

  • Dogs: Yes, with slow intros
  • Cats: Yes, lives with two furry foster kitties
  • Children: Yes, with all ages
  • House-trained: Yes
  • Energy level: Low energy/couch potato

Nena – Adoptable

American Staffordshire Terrier & Pit Bull Terrier Mix • Adult (Approx. 2 years) • Female • Medium-Sized

If you’re looking for a sidekick who is equal parts active and snuggles, Nena is your gal! We think Nena is around a year and a half old. She is perfectly potty-trained and crate-trained with just the right amount of puppy energy for a long walk, jog, fetch, tug, you name it! She’s even been swimming at the local dog pool lately and really enjoys it! She also loves nothing more than curling up on the couch and being a lap dog. She’s a petite pup coming in at around 43 pounds most of which is probably in her ears 🙂

Nena does best with slow introductions with other dogs and would thrive in a home with no pets or an older, mellow dog.

MORE ABOUT NENA:

  • Dogs: Yes, with slow introductions
  • Cats: No
  • Children: Yes
  • House-trained: Yes
  • Crate-trained: Yes

Jilly – Adoptable

Staffordshire Bull Terrier & Jack Russell Terrier Mix • Adult (Approx. 3 years) • Female • Medium-Sized

I’m Jilly Beans! I’m about 3 years old and would consider myself a high energy girl. My foster mom says I’m loving, protective, athletic, snuggly, and a total goof ball (whatever that is).
Cuddling with my humans is my favorite. The closer I can get the better. My foster mom thinks I have boney elbows but I tell her that’s what happens when you’re a beautiful velvet hippo like me.

I have anxiety so I take medication that really helps me be the best Jilly I can be. It helps me focus when I’m training, relax while my foster humans are at work, and deal with city life’s everyday stressors. New dogs, especially small ones, really over-stimulate me so it’s important for my future family to understand my needs and continue my training once I’m adopted. Slow introductions with four legged friends is a must. I currently live with a 125lb foster sister who loves to play and ‘wrassle’ with me but she is also very understanding and patient when it comes to my “little sister shenanigans.”  I haven’t been around human siblings but think I would do well with older kids who have JRT/Pittie experience. I like to eat alone because I love food/treats but don’t really like to share. I would love a family who is active or has a big fenced in yard so I can burn off my extra energy. I love to play fetch. I love it so much that I forget to “drop it” sometimes so we can keep playing, oops! It will be important that my future family continues my training because I really enjoy it!

Sometimes I get discouraged because I think my anxiety scares people away because I might be “too much work.” My foster mom tells me to keep my head up because there’s nothing wrong with me, the perfect family just hasn’t come along yet. Could you be my perfect forever?

MORE ABOUT JILLY BEAN:

  • Dogs: I’m a girl that needs several doggy dog dates before I know whether I like your company.
  • Cats: They are too boring, so I will pass.
  • Children: Kids over 10 due to my energy.
  • House-trained: Yes, but sometimes I really gotta go and can’t hold it!
  • Crate-trained: No, but does great in a gated off area in the house
  • Obedience: Knows basic commands, very quick learner and treat motivated
  • Energy Level: High energy

Gordie – Adoptable **DOG OF THE MONTH**

American Staffordshire Terrier & American Bull Dog Mix • Adult (Approx. 2 years) • Male • Medium-Sized

Hi! I’m Gordie. I’m about 2 years and I am a ton of fun! I love to play tug-of-war, take car rides, visit Home Depot (I call it Home GOR-depot!), and meet people everywhere I go. I beg every day for a walk – even if it’s a short one. I love exploring the world and am looking for a family who likes to do that, too. I’m one of the Peace for Pits Respits, which means I visit the residents of a nursing home to give and get some love. Meeting people is the highlight of my day. I can’t help it – everyone loves me!

I’m over 100lbs of American Bulldog hunk, which is saying a LOT because it wasn’t very long ago that I was malnourished and very sick. I have a condition called ichythyosis [ick-thee-O-sis], but my foster family has lots of tips and tricks to help keep that in check. My skin is dry and I have some bald patches. Oh, and I get more baths than other dogs – but I LOVE my baths. It’s not so hard to deal with. Let’s do it together!

When my foster parents leave home, I get quality time in my crate. Otherwise, I throw parties and they don’t seem to like that too much. I have no problem going in my crate since all my favorite toys and treats are in there.

Click here to donate to his medical expenses.

MORE ABOUT GORDIE:

  • Dogs: Best as only dog/Need very slow intro to non-dominant dogs
  • Cats: No cats
  • Kids: Loves kids, but is a big guy and a little clumsy, so needs to be kids who can handle that
  • House-trained: Yes
  • Crate-trained: Yes
  • Obedience: Knows basic commands, loves learning new things, highly food-motivated
  • Energy Level: High energy in spurts

Bijou – Adoptable

American Staffordshire Terrier & Pit Bull Terrier Mix • Young (Approx. 1-1.5 years) • Female • Medium-Sized

Hi – I’m Bijou! After nearly two months at CACC where I was found as a stray, I’m getting the hang of being a family dog. I LOVE people and am very loyal to my foster parents. I follow them around whenever I can and am always happy to cuddle and give kisses. I have two foster brothers at home. I was pretty suspect of both of them when I first moved in, but now we’re cool. I’m tighter with the dominant one than the more submissive one, but slowly but surely we are all getting along. I don’t always do well with other dogs the first time I meet them and need to be introduced to new dogs slowly and carefully. My foster family are going to start taking me to socialization classes so I can get better at making friends.

My foster family has been working on my training. I am really food motivated so they think I would do great in obedience classes. It took some time, but I even learned how to use a doggie door at my foster family’s home to go do my business all by myself. I also know to stand by the door if I need to go out. I don’t really like being crated and get anxious if I am left alone, but I am working hard on getting used to it!

I’m only about 45 pounds but eventually I should start putting on some weight and might get as big as 55 or 60 pounds. I love going for walks and running around in big open spaces. My foster parents say I do pretty well on my walks, but sometimes can get a little excited and pull/dart a little when I see something interesting. Sometimes I get the zoomies and will even show off my running 360s. People seem to love it when I do that. I don’t really quite understand the concept of playing catch/fetch yet, but I know I will get it eventually!

MORE ABOUT BIJOU:

  • Dogs: Yes, with slow introductions
  • Cats: Unsure of cats when tested
  • Children: No kids in foster home, but seems good
  • House-trained: Yes
  • Crate-trained: In-progress, still a bit anxious when crated
  • Obedience: Knows sit and has good name-recognition. VERY food motivated
  • Energy Level: High energy

Casey Moran – Adoptable

American Staffordshire Terrier & Pit Bull Terrizer Mix • Young (Approx. 2 years) • Male • Medium-Sized

Hi my name is Casey Moran and I am about 2 years old and 60lbs. If you are looking for a lap dog I am your boy. I love to snuggle on the couch with my blankets, people and pet friends. I have some anxiety and just want to be near my pack, but once I know the schedule I relax and am very easy going. I enjoy being outside, rolling in the grass, running with my foster pup brother and sunning myself. Bulley sticks and cheese are my favorite special treats. I am very motivated to learn new tricks and I am currently in training to be the best dog I can be. I am a quick learner… I already know sit, down and wait and have mastered the perfect head tilt that will melt your heart! I dream of a loving home where I can be my goofy, cuddly self. Be given attention, exercise, snuggles and a consistent schedule.

Miss Bambi – Adoptable

American Staffordshire Terrier & Pit Bull Terrier Mix • Adult (Approx. 2 years) • Female • Medium-Sized

Hey I’m Miss. Bambi I a super loveable cuddle bug! Am I a lap dog well yes I am because I always have to be touching someone. I am about 2 years old and 50lbs. When my foster mom gets home I am a little high strung because I want to get outside and love on my little humans and give kisses. I am a great listener and do a few tricks but I will definitely need treats for that. My favorite toys are rope toys but I do destroy them pretty fast. Sometimes I still have accidents in the house but they are few and far between. I love laying with my little human friends who are 6 and 9 and watching TV with them.
If you tell me it’s time to go outside I get a wiggle butt with excitement but I do wait patiently for my leash. I sit great with treats and give my paw at times. When the little guys walk me I’m calm on my leash but I do like to sniff everything. My cage is my comfort zone and will just lay in it sometimes with the door open. I do get excited at times when there is a lot going on in the house with the kiddos but they have a blast with me. I’m not a fan of baths but I do well with them but as soon as they are done I get the zoomies and have to do a few laps. I am good with other dogs but my introduction has to be slow because I want to play and they might not want to.
Honestly my foster mom cannot go to the bathroom without me next to her I love following her around the house and laying in the bed with my little human friends because they just rub on my head until I fall asleep. I have to say I am definitely a family pitty and kid friendly. I have a smile that will make you laugh and feel good on a bad day!!

Lone Star – Adoptable

American Staffordshire Terrier & Pit Bull Terrier Mix  • Adult (Approx. 2 years) • Male • Medium-Sized

Lone Star? What does his foster say? “He’s a handsome 75 lb beefcake. 🙂 He’s done well meeting other dogs, adults and older kids (8+yrs). He has not met any cats or younger kids yet. He’s crate trained, walks well on leash, but can pull when he’s excited. He’s starting basic manners class this week – he already has pretty good manners knows sit, down, working on stay & leave it. He gets really excited when he sees other dogs, so we’re looking forward to working on his skills in a distracting environment. His favorite toys right now are puzzle games, like playing the muffin tin game and treat dispensing toys. He is just getting into his snuffle mat. He’s great on car rides and likes running errands. He was easy to handle at the vet. At home he’s pretty chill and doesn’t wander too far from us. He gets the zoomies at night every once in awhile and is quite athletic. :)”

Paprika – Adoptable

American Staffordshire Terrier & Pit Bull Terrier Mix  • Adult (Approx. 1 year) • Female • Medium-Sized

Hi, I’m Paprika! I’m about a year old and have lots of energy! I like to go on walks; runs are even more fun for me. Cuddling is my FAVORITE thing to do! I think I’m a lap dog and will climb right on top of you and keep you warm while we watch TV together. I like to watch cars zoom by on TV, but I’m not picky and will watch all your favorite TV shows with you.

I have a foster brother right now. We like to sleep together on our big fluffy bed. Whatever he is playing with, I want to play with it! I get along with other male dogs, but sometimes I can get jealous of other female dogs. I would prefer a laid back female dog that doesn’t jump all over me.

My foster family is working on my training with me. I’m officially crate trained (I prefer the plastic crates), but I’m still learning how to let you know when I need to go out when I’m outside of the crate. I love learning new things; I’m highly food motivated so I’m learning lots of tricks while I wait for my forever home.

I’m over 40 pounds now! I lost a lot of weight when I was at the shelter, but I’ve been working on gaining my weight back while I’ve been with my foster family.

I come with free training for life from Safe Humane. Click here to learn more about the program!

Hugo – Adoptable

American Staffordshire Terrier & Pit Bull Terrier Mix • Adult (Approx. 2-3 years) • Male • Medium-Sized

Hi, I’m Hugo. I’m around 3 years old, am just over 50 lbs, and have the cutest ears and markings you’ll ever see. I am motivated to practice training and learn more, but am also happy chewing bones and chasing tennis balls. Please take me with you in the car on errands or a road trip! I love to ride along wherever you go, and will curl up for the ride. If you let me on the couch, I will love you forever. I like to follow you around to see what you’re doing, but can also relax once I know the daily routine.

I’m a special boy, because I have some anxiety: visitors to my home, transitioning to a new place (like boarding), and I like to take my time and have space when I get out of my crate. When I get excited, I can get a little mouthy when playing, but am easily corrected.

Hugo’s perks: crate trained, house trained, dog-friendly, easy to walk (does pull when sees other dogs!), will fetch tennis balls, loves to sleep!
Hugo’s great loves: bones, cheese, laying in the sun or on the couch, being near his people, running on the beach or in a big yard
Hugo’s quirks: shakes during firecrakers/fireworks, wants to meet all the dogs on walks (pulls), prefers to be petted under the chin and chest (rather than on top of head or back), anxiety issues (to be treated with behaviorist plan of medication and training)

MORE ABOUT HUGO:

  • Dogs: Yes, loves all dogs
  • Cats: Not tested (does have small prey instinct with rabbits and squirrels)
  • Children: Good with kids, but should reside in a home without children
  • House-trained: Yes

  • Obedience: Knows some basics like sit and down and would love to learn more!  Is familiar with mat and clicker training.
  • Energy Level:  Both a couch potato and has energy for long walks, fetching tennis balls, and doing zoomies

Rusty – Adoptable

American Staffordshire Terrier & Pit Bull Terrier Mix  • Adult (Approx. 2-3 years) • Male • Medium-Sized

We have had Rusty since Friday and he is a total sweetheart. Super friendly with adults, kids and other dogs. We took him with us on a food run last night and he was quite popular with people walking by. He is a total licker and goes for your legs when he can’t get to your face. Also, he is obsessed with food and is a champion beggar. He’s around 50 pounds, short and stout. He let us give him a bath with no problems. He likes ropes and dog toys..didn’t know what to do with a tennis ball. Stairs totally freak him out and even though he follows us everywhere, if we go upstairs he just sits at the bottom and waits. We tried carrying him up last night but he panted for a full 30 minutes so we gave that up, carried him back down and I slept on the couch with him. Both nights he slept on the couch until about 2am, fell off both nights and then went and slept on the wood floor. He’s pretty funny. I don’t think he’s used to furniture yet. He gets up and down a lot before finding a comfy place.

He has shown little bits of anxiety here and there but is more comfortable with every passing hour. When he is anxious, he pants, walks the house and has humped us and blankets a handful of times. He knows sit and the word no and calms down very quickly. He is getting neutered tomorrow morning and has a slight ear infection but is healthy otherwise. He has some puppy behaviors..jumps occasionally but gently, goes after flip flops and other random things..faux flower arrangements, blankets, paper towels. He stops when you catch him though. He has had one accident at 2am after one of his falling off the couch incidents. He did go by the door and I thought about letting him out but didn’t so I guess it’s partly my fault too.

The very best thing about him though is a grunts like a pig when you are petting him in just the right spot and when he gets treats. It is AMAZING! He also likes to watch tv and we are working on cuddling. He will lay with you for a few minutes but then gets down. We haven’t had to leave him alone yet so I will report how that goes this week.
